Our Story
Welcome to the home of Comfort Creatures. We supply a small range of specific products that assist with sensory integration.
It all started with a Sensory Integration trained Occupational Therapist, an anxious boy and a stuffed dog named Spot. Spot is now covered in patches, has been through the washing machine on various occasions but remains a loyal companion and an excellent co-regulator.
From there the range grew and more products have been added over time. We hope you enjoy your experience with us.
What is Proprioception?
Proprioception is one of our 7 senses. Proprioceptors are sensory receptors that are found in all of our muscles and joints. They have two functions. They give us information about our bodies positions and when stimulated they have a calming effect on the nervous system. How this works is when these receptors are stimulated your release Serotonin and Dopamine. Serotonin is a neurotransmitter that has a calming effect and Dopamine helps us to concentrate. This is why Proprioception makes us feel good after a run or calms us when someone gives us a hug. It is also the reason we bite our nails or grind our teeth when we are stressed. It is why some people focus better when they doodle, rock on their chair or fidget. By stimulating these receptors with muscle movement we can help children and adults to regulate or become calm and to focus better. All the products at Comfort Creatures are designed to stimulate various proprioceptors in the body.
